February 2021 Social Action Programs

Donate to the Diane Kaplan Social Action Fund.

Please note that we are not accepting donations brought to TBS at this time. Only monetary donations please!

The Diane Kaplan Social Action Fund is the best way to support TBS’ commitment to our greater community. A monetary donation to the fund allows us to purchase items our organizations need.
We have been able to supply community programs we work with, financial support and materials they need, to help those in need! Thank you for your generosity, we are all making a difference.

Ongoing Programs: We will resume all programs as soon as possible. Some programs can be done at home.

New Reach: The Towers donated several bags of knitted blankets to New Reach which was greatly appreciated. We also donated 20 twin blankets through The Probus Club and holiday wish list gift cards to clients for the holiday season. New Reach is now accepting baby and children’s clothing. Call Fran Parness at 203-430-7362.

IRIS: We have recently taken on this agency as one we will support. Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services. (IRIS) is a non-profit agency whose mission is to help refugees and other displaced people establish new lives. More information to follow. Call Fran Parness at
203-430-7362.

Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen: DESK will have a new home on State Street in New Haven in the near future. We will hopefully be able to return there in 2021 and have our usual volunteer opportunities. For now, monetary donations are being accepted. See DESK
(https://www.deskct.org) for other ideas on how you can help. Contact Gary Drucker at gdknix@gmail.com

Knitting Project: We are now supporting the knitters at The Towers with yarn donations. Please let us know if you have yarn and we will arrange to pick it up. A total of 250 Hats and scarves have been distributed to DESK, New Reach and Keefe Center. Thank you to all our knitters for their dedication and time! If you would like to be a knitter, Contact Helene Meltzer at 203-281-0709

M.L.Keefe Center: We have been in touch with Hamden Public Schools and they needs school supplies for students even more than ever. Debby Pines has contacted Staples and we are developing a relationship for school supply discounts. We will purchase the supplies, if you make a financial donation. At this time because of Covid 19 we are not accepting donations of items at the temple. Call Randy Berns at 203-248-0286.

Partnerships Adult Day Center: One of our new agencies, some of our temple members participate in this program. We are supporting them with financial help to provide items needed at the center for lunch and other activities for clients. For further information contact Marjorie Drucker mdrocks2@gmail.com

Fresh Fruit Program: The fresh fruit delivery program is back in action. We are in need of volunteers to deliver fresh fruit for January, February and March. Martha’s Place and Life Haven are just as concerned about everyone’s health and safety as we are, so deliveries can be “touch less”. Contact Deborah Wilkenfeld Wilkenfeld_deborah@yahoo.com.

Collecting Pop Tabs for Ronald McDonald House: Please collect your tabs and bring your tabs to TBS once we can return. Once we have a good amount they will be donated for this worthwhile cause. For more info contact Gerry Ganezer at 860-620-0907 or gganezer@gmail.com

Tower One/Tower East: We are providing financial support for the kiddush following services. Call Eta Kaplan at 203-281-3349
