Rabbi’s Corner July-August 2025

Rabbi’s Message
Most of us have more time during the summer. What are we going to do with this precious time?

We all read a lot during the summer. I know you’ve heard me say that we will read
responsively. Now I
want to talk about
“reading responsibly.”
I know we all like
“beach reading.” But
do we really need to
read another murder
mystery?

We should read for personal growth.
We should read deeply. Choose a few
books that challenge you intellectually
or spiritually.

Let summer be a season of renewal. We
should reflect.
We should try something new: A class,
a musical instrument, a language, a
skill — even just cooking a new dish.
We should use the summer for rest and
recovery.
We should rest intentionally: Not just
doing nothing, but real rest — nature,
naps, no screens.
We should reconnect: Spend quality
time with friends or family you rarely
see during the year.
Sabbath mindset: Treat summer as a
long sabbath, letting yourself be rather
than do. Use time for Spiritual Renewal.

Tackle long-postponed projects:
Writing, organizing, planning.
Learn: Take a course, audit lectures,
study a topic deeply — even just 30
minutes a day.

Plan ahead: Use summer to prepare for
the fall —logistically, emotionally.

The summer is a wonderful time.
Use it well.
