March 2024: President’s Message

On March 30, 2024, we will be celebrating 40 years of Rabbi Scolnic’s incredible dedication, care, and love of our congregation and community. We look forward to our entire community being part of this spirited celebration that will include appetizers and a lot of desserts (hence the event being called “40 Years in the Dessert”).

There will also be a musical revue by the legendary Jewish group, The TBS Singers, led by Steve Schulefand. If you have not purchased your tickets yet, please call Hinda at 203-444-9576 to see if tickets are still available.

After four decades, Rabbi Scolnic’s greatest joy would be to witness an increased attendance at our services, particularly in this post-Covid era.

Whether it’s for minyan, Friday night, or Saturday morning, we welcome more members to join us. Did you know that for occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, or other special celebrations such as getting into college, buying a new home, getting a new job, you can request to participate in an aliyah, ark opening, or English reading? We can’t wait to celebrate, support, and honor you!

So, this is your official invitation to be our guest on the bimah. Contact the Rabbi and Jonathan, our Ritual VP, through the office with the date and your preference (aliyah, ark opening, or English reading). Be Our Guest (Bimah Guest!)

Sung to the tune of “Be Our Guest” from Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast”, parody written by Jill (Piscitelle) Fredrickson.
It is with deepest pride
and greatest pleasure that we welcome you tonight.
And now we invite you to relax, let us pull out a siddur
as the sanctuary proudly presents – your prayers

Be our guest. Be our guest.
Put our bimah to the test.
Put your kippah on your head, chaver (friend)
And we’ll provide the rest.

V’shamru

Aleinu

And of course Adon Olam
Try the challah, it’s delicious
On the bimah, no need for dishes

You can sing
You can chant
Listen to the Rabbi “rant”
And the service here is never second best

Come on up to the bimah
Take a seat – and then you’ll
Be our guest, be our guest, bimah guest!
