TBS Social Action Committee – the Diane Kaplan Social Action Fund
Each month we plan to highlight each of our agencies so you may know more about what they do. Please continue to give generously to the fund. It allows us to support these agencies in the greater New Haven area.
This month we will focus on three programs that have been helping many in our community; IRIS, The Food Pantry of North Branford, and New Reach.
IRIS (Integrated Refugee and Immigrant Services): IRIS is one of three refugee agencies in Connecticut that assist refugees that arrive in the United States under the federal governments refugee program. IRIS receives its funding from the federal government as well as private funding. IRIS excepts people who have endured persecution in their own countries or have been living in refugee camps for anywhere from 3 to 5 years.
The Food Pantry of North Branford: is located in the lower level of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church at 1382 Middletown Ave. in Northford. Its mission is to provide free supplemental groceries to those in need. The Board of Directors, the Pantry Director and all other staff are volunteers. 100% of all food and monetary donations are used to support clients. They receive free or low cost food from The Connecticut Food Bank and have retail partnerships with Big Y and Ceccarelli Farm.
New Reach: Their mission is to inspire lasting independence for all people affected by homelessness and poverty through a continuum of housing and support using the most innovative, progressive, equitable and inclusive methods primarily for women and children.
Fresh Fruit Program: needs a volunteer for April to purchase fresh fruit. Please contact Deborah Wilkenfeld for more information.
Tu B’Shevat Bottle Recycling: Thank you to all who brought bottles to TBS on Sunday morning. Thanks to you, we collected 1100+ bottles and cans!! We will redeem and use the funds to support our programs.
Our committee thanks you for your continued support,
