October 2016:

So it’s now November and we’ve successfully navigated all of the fall holidays. For those who were unable to attend Kol Nidre services with us this year I would like to use this month’s article space to give you a recap of this year’s President’s Award announcement.
This year’s winner is the epitome of volunteerism.  Spanning over the many years of membership with our synagogue this person has been involved in numerous aspects of our synagogue life, both in the background of planning activities and in the forefront of running the programs themselves.  Over the past few years, our winner’s children have become increasingly involved in the synagogue and now our awardee has a grandson attending our nursery school program.  This person has given countless hours to us, making this building and what we stand for better at every turn.  This person’s leadership roles have been varied, but all have been performed with the same enthusiasm, energy and smile.  My family, and many others look forward to seeing our winner every Shabbos.  We’re always greeted with a warm smile and a handshake or hug.  To go much further into a description of what this person has done, and continues to do for us to this day would surely give away their identity.
As this year’s winner has done on several occasions at TBS, he is again following in his wife’s footsteps, first following her as TBS President, and now following her as a President’s Award winner. It is with great pleasure that I present this year’s award. The award reads, “In recognition and appreciation of your longstanding dedication and commitment to the improvement of our community” to Sy Kaplan.

If you see Sy and haven’t already done so, please give him a big Mazel Tov!

Brian Lakin
