As you read this message, we are either between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur or we just concluded these holidays. However, as said on infomercials…”But wait, there’s more.” Starting on Monday evening, October 6th Sukkot will begin and then conclude with Simchat Torah on Tuesday evening, October 14th and Wednesday morning, October 15th.
Until a few years ago, I had never attended morning services on these holidays, and I now look forward to the traditions during these services. For the first time a few years ago, I shook the lulav and estrog during Hallel prayers on Sukkot and saw the entire congregation get called up for an Aliyah on Simchat Torah as we completed reading the Torah and started the cycle of reading it over again. If you have never experienced these holidays, I encourage you to attend.
In addition to morning services, the congregation is invited to help decorate the Sukkah on Sunday morning, October 5th, followed by a luncheon. On Tuesday, October 14th, there will be our traditional Simchat Torah dinner, followed by services, which culminate in dancing with the Torahs. We hope to see you there!
