Evelyn Heller was a beloved mother and friend.  She was born here in New Haven, the daughter of two Russian Jewish immigrants.  She was raised with her sister, Charlotte, and went to school here and then attended what was then Larsen Junior College, what is not Quinnipiac University.  She was a bookkeeper for the family business, the Palace Laundry, and then worked at the Hamden Chronicle and eventually as secretary to the Medical Director of  Parkview Medical Recovery Center.  
    She married Roger and they had a strong and wonderful marriage for fifty-two years until he passed away in 1995.  The family won’t forget their big 50th anniversary party at Colonial Tymes.

    They had their wonderful daughters Barbara and Jayne.  Evelyn was a wonderful mother who would skip with a daughter in public.  She was a great cook who was known for her lentil soup.  The girls’ friends loved to come to their home.
    She was close to Jayne’s late husband Andreas and found the loss, a few months after Roger’s passing, extremely hard.  That has to have been the worst year of her life.
    Evelyn loved to knit.  She made ice-skating sweaters, argyle sweaters, cable-stitch sweaters.  She loved to read, especially murder mysteries and romance novels.
    A highlight of her life was her trip to Israel and Egypt.
    At 90, she’s outlived many of her friends.  And at the end of her life, she passed away peacefully.  She’ll join Roger now.
    We’ll remember her wonderful sense of humor.  She was an officer of Hadassah, working at the Thrift Shop, serving as an officer, going to charity luncheons in her hat and white gloves.
    We’ll remember her as a warm, classy, lovely person.  She was petite but she had a big heart.
