April 2016: From TBS President Sy Kaplan
On Sunday, April 10th I was honored to receive the Men’s club Keeper of the Flame award. What did I do to deserve this award? I don’t know, because I didn’t do anything extraordinary. I just did what I always do, my everyday routine. I try to help in any way I can. Along with Elliot Alderman, I bring the foods that are donated and left in the basket and barrels to the Jewish Family Service food kitchen. Thanks to Elliot for helping me schlep and to our members who donated the food.
We here at TBS do so many charitable things that go unnoticed. We are not looking for the covet, what we do here is to welcome new faces to our building in hopes that they will become members.
I like to think we create a comfort zone. Our Friday night Oneg and our Shabbat Kiddush allow us to mingle and get to know each other.
Many Synagogues were represented at this award luncheon. I believe TBS had the largest turn out and I thank you for that. I finished my talk with what I feel, Temple Beth Sholom, that small building with the big heart.
