The Esther Swinkin Memorial Library is in a new space which was completed in 2006 with renovations and additions.  Adjacent to the Chapel, the room is a comfortable and inviting place to read and study.

TBS Library

The library and its collection are available for use by all Temple members. Books and videos may be borrowed for one month on an honor system. To borrow a book: fill out the book card in the back of the book with your name, telephone number, address, and the date the book was borrowed. Place the book card in the box on the top of the card catalog.  Return books to the blue box under the card catalog.

The library has a collection of approximately 1500 books and 75 videos.  There is also a children’s collection.  The general collection contains information concerning the history of the Jews and our religion, analysis and discussion of the Torah, the Bible and other ancient texts, religious practices, holidays, life-cycle events, the Holocaust, and Israel, as well as biographical, political and social commentary on the lives of the Jewish people in today’s society.

The mission of the Library is to provide the Temple members with a collection which will expand their knowledge and understanding of all aspects of Judaism.

Recommendations for the library are always welcome and can be sent by email to library@tbshamden.com, or left at the TBS office in the library mailbox.
